Eradicating FGM
Female Genital Mutilation / Cutting (FGM) is a practice that involves partial or total removal of the external female genitalia or other injury to the female genital organs for the cultural or other non therapeutic reasons (WHO 2000).
The FGM practice violates human principles notably the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Convention on Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women and the Convention on the Rights of Child (WHO, 2008).
Elgeyo Market is one of the 22 FGM hotspot’s county in Kenya where FGM is practiced. CAWE KENYA is committed towards eradicating Female Genital Mutilation in the region and its neighboring counties.
Women Empowerment
Widows of Conflict
The Kenya National Action Plan UNSCR 1325 strives to make gender problems including widows a priority in conflict resolution prevention and peace building. It attempts to evaluate the conflict and Number 39’s impact on women and girls by ensuring that complicated cross cutting problems such as widowhood are emphasized and that where peace table are created, widows are represented on them.
CAWE KENYA together with the State and Non State actors will explore ways of empowering the widows through introduction of income generating activities such as farming, sewing, chicken rearing, literacy and numeracy to enable them do well in their activities. Introduction of WISALAS (Widows and Savings Loans and Savings Association will uplift their lives from grief to growth.
Youth Empowerment
It must be noted that a conflict situation cannot be brought to rest managed or transformed with adequately exploring how energy of its primary agents being the youth could be redirected for attainment of sustainable peace in a society. Recognizing and affirming the important role youth can play in the prevention and conflicts resolution is the first step towards the success of a peaceful and conducive environment required for a region to grow politically and economically.
CAWE KENYA is committed to the UNSCR 2250 Youth4Peace pillars which participation, Disintegration and Reintegration. It aims to work with the Youth in the North Rift by tranforming them from field warriors to peacemakers.
