WIDOWS OF CONFLICT

Numerous tragedies have resulted from the banditry attacks in Flgeyo Marakwet and Baringo counties including violent outbursts and clashes that have killed young men and left over 450 young widows and over 1,000 orphans in their wake. These women have experienced abrupt job losses, horrifying murders or injuries to their loved ones and have left them in excruciatingly uncomfortable situations. This may indicate a rise in the area’s poverty rate, which is bad news for those who suffer from mental illness, food insecurity and high rates of school dropout.

FOOD SECURITY

Ensuring that women have access to and control over resources, information and opportunities connected to food production, distribution and consumption is a crucial part of empowering women via food security. Encouraging gender equality and empowering women requires a strong food security system. Widows of conflict are being empowered through education and training, technology adoption, community engagement , nutritional education and capacity building. In order to achieve food security, reduce poverty, and promote overall sustainable development, empowered women are essential.

'KALYA' Means PEACE

In order to guarantee the relevance and efficacy of peace-building programmes, youth involvement in their design and implementation is crucial. Communities in Elgeyo Marakwet and Baringo may strive towards sustainable peace and development by providing young people with the opportunity and skills they require. This is being done through sports and recreation,  networking and partnerships with other organizations, encouraging cultural exchange programmes and integration between different communities and provide training in conflict resolution and mediation skills
